GA4 and Google Tag Manager setup that measures real outcomes

Tracking and measurement means configuring GA4 and Google Tag Manager so you can tell the difference between a page view, a button click, a submitted enquiry, a qualified lead, an attended appointment and a sale, and then use the outcomes that matter to guide your ad spend.
The measurement ladder

Not every "conversion" is a result

Activity signals sit at the bottom and business outcomes at the top. Good tracking measures each step separately.

Tracking questions

What's the difference between GA4 and Google Tag Manager?
GA4 is the analytics tool that stores and reports data. Google Tag Manager is a container that controls which tracking tags fire on your site and when. GTM sends events to GA4 and to ad platforms.
What is a key event in GA4?
A key event is an event you mark as important to your business, such as a submitted enquiry or a purchase. Only real outcomes should be key events. Button clicks shouldn't be.
Can I send booked or attended appointments back to Google Ads?
Often, yes. Google Ads supports offline conversion imports and enhanced conversions for leads, so outcomes recorded in your CRM can be matched back to ad clicks and used for optimisation, subject to consent and platform policies.
Why do GA4 and ad platforms show different numbers?
They use different attribution models, conversion windows and counting methods, and some conversions are modelled. Some difference is normal. Large gaps usually mean a tracking problem.
